The value of any proverb collection is well expressed by the wise words of Niccolò Tommaseo: "Were it possible to collect and somehow list the Italian proverbs, i.e. proverbs of any people and age in their different voices, imagination and concepts, this work would be, after the Holy Bible, the most thoughtful book ever."
