Leading historian, trained by Ferdinando Gabotto and Mason like him, Patrucco documented, not only the fragmented relations of Garibaldi with various Masonic organizations in Italy and abroad, but he also identified first the Masonry as the source of the main and irreparable contrast between Garibaldi and Giuseppe Mazzini. The work also collects many documents on Masonry, the Risorgimento and the first ten years of the New Italy, what generally escapes to historiography.
